Walk a little, even if you are not “a hiker”

In Sifnos, even a short walk takes you deeper into the island.

On Sifnos, you do not need to be one of those people with trekking poles, special shoes, maps and apps. Here you can simply walk. A little. Just enough to understand the island differently.

The paths here are not exercise routes made for sport. They are old roads. And roads were made to be walked easily. They are connections between villages, churches, fields, shores and springs. Even a short walk can show you things you cannot see from a car: you will smell thyme and sage, lean on dry-stone walls, step into welcoming little chapels in the middle of nowhere.

Choose an easy route, check how long it takes, take water and start early in the morning or in the afternoon. Midday in August is not a time for heroics. You do not need to prove anything to anyone, neither to Sifnos nor to yourself.

If you walk even a little, you will understand better why the island is not only its destinations. It is also the routes between them. And very often, that is where all the beauty is.
